The Social Media Strategy Your Business Needs

(Correction dated 4th April 2025: In last week's issue I made an error while writing Saad Farrukh's story stating he was based in Lahore. The painter is based in Karachi, Pakistan and is creating spectacular pieces as you read.)

Hey there,

The pressure to keep up with trends, engage with followers, and improve revenue while getting better conversions—is real.

But the good news is that social media doesn’t have to be a time sink.

This issue is all about streamlining your social media strategy.

I'll review a posting plan that worked for me, trends that make social media a goldmine and some tips on keeping content handy without spending all day online.

The social media plan you’ll want to stick to

So you created an elaborate posting schedule, which looks great on paper, but it fell apart in week 3.

I have been there, kinda multiple times *sheepish smile*.

What you missed was factoring in your bandwidth and business goals while making the posting schedule.

Here’s how to improve your plan:

👉 Find your ‘bare minimum’ schedule

Forget the pressure to post daily. You don’t have to.

Instead, commit to a frequency you are comfortable keeping.

If all you can do is two strong posts a week, own it. Your predictability will build trust with your audience/customers.

👉 Work smarter, not harder >>> Turn one idea into multiple posts

Don’t reinvent the wheel especially if you are starting to pick up steam.

A single customer question can become:

  • A quick Instagram Story answering it
  • A carousel post breaking down the solution
  • A short-form video showing it in action

Got a great post from last year? Update it and repost.

👉 Batch and schedule ahead

Set aside some time per week (an hour to a few) to create and schedule your posts.

You will not be scrambling last minute to stay consistent.

👉 Engage strategically

Algorithms love DMs, comments and real engagement over passive likes. Focus on getting conversations started, not just putting out content.

👉 Keep it flexible >>> Track and tweak

Remember not every post will be a hit.

Use insights to see what’s resonating and adjust. Your goal shouldn’t be perfection, instead aim for progress.

Jumping on trends is good as long as the trends align with your brand/purpose. Skip trends that you don’t fit in.

👉 Lastly >>> Ditch the pressure to be everywhere

Pick one at most two platforms where your audience spends time.

Post, then stay active to respond.

JUST FOR YOU:

Snackable Insights

>>> TV vs. Social media: which one would you pick for your entertainment? A study by Deloitte showed that 56% of Gen Z and 43% of millennials say that social media content is more relevant to them than TV. The study surveyed 3,595 people in the US.

>>> This is how much money Meta makes. It’s a lot. I am just saying! 🤷

>>> YouTube is rolling out new Shorts features. The AI sticker feature is just so cool (which will include prompts later). Read about the new rollouts here.

Smart Biz Strategy: Play up your uniqueness without spending $$$

Use a ‘content bank.’ Save ideas, captions, and visuals in a simple document on Google Docs or Notion to pull from later. Set ‘content themes’ and to avoid last-minute stress use the content bank for posts and reels.

Example of content theme: Mondays = tips, Wednesdays = testimonials, Fridays = behind-the-scenes.

Create content around FAQs. If customers ask about something it's likely non-customers will wonder about it too.

Experiment and analyze. Try different formats and track what works best.

Social media measures progress, not just your score

Social media is a tool and should not feel like a constant drain on your mental resources. But the pressure to see quick results can kick in when you start comparing with other SMBs. And it can quickly go downhill from there.

Here’s where a mindset shift to 'progress with purpose' can help you.

Become strategic with your posts. Successful businesses aren’t the ones posting the most; they’re the ones posting with clear intent (even if you see a bunch of posts from them!).

Start your post with a reason in mind: to engage your audience, reinforce your brand, or drive conversions. If social media has started to feel like a treadmill, it’s time to hit pause, take a step back and ask yourself:

  • Do my posts align with the bigger vision for my brand?
  • Is it helping me connect with the right people?
  • Is the schedule I am creating repeatable?

Social media is here to support your growth, not become a second job.

Hey hey! Does you business attract a younger lot with fancy phones waiting to click selfies? Then your products are not the only thing they are buying. They are collecting content they can post at a moment's notice. Maybe even looking for a nook where they can stream from. If your space isn’t camera-ready, you’re missing out on free promotion from the people already walking through your doors. Make it easy for people to post... You just need the right bait. Hey hey! Most people don’t announce the moment they decide to trust you. They can't. But they remember how your words made them feel, often forgetting URLs, especially if they don't bookmark as extravagantly as I do. A blog is where that decision often begins. At its best, a blog, yes the one that is gathering dust, is a steady way of building confidence. A good blog says more than it sells... The role of long-form content has shifted. It’s no longer about pushy, salesy, punch lines after...

Hello folks! There is a saying: If you’re showing up online for everyone, you’re showing up for no one. You better believe it. Local brick-and-mortar businesses thrive when their posts feel like they know the neighbourhood audience better than anyone else. Let's make it happen in this issue. Act like a local media outlet, just with more product shots... Instead of pushing broad promos, tie your content to what’s happening right outside your door. This works really well for product-based...
